Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution should I use for scanning my images?

Different forms of output require or “tolerate” different levels of resolution. Images scanned or created for offset printing should have a DPI (dots per inch) resolution value of twice the line screen value of the print job itself. For example, if your job will be printed at 150 lines per inch, the images you use in your document should have a resolution of 300 DPI.

Large-format inkjet printers can tolerate a much lower resolution. Images to be printed by these machines should have at least 125 DPI in their final output size. Viewing distance and location may also determine the level of DPI needed for an image.
